Is my compromise agreement a good deal
Each compromise agreement is different and it s not just
about how much money you get, it s also about how you feel about your employers
and how comfortable you are sitting it out and playing the game. For example, a
quick three months wages, plus all notice pay, outstanding bonus and
commission etc, could be a great exit point for a clean break. If you have
particularly unfairly treated, or you think it could take you a lot longer to
find a new job, then you probably want to push for more.
There is always room for improvement of the terms however
ask yourself is this the most tax efficient structure for you, have you agreed
a reference and if you just asked for it in a different way, could you get an
even better deal. One way to boost your amount of money offered is to get a
legal representative to speak to your employer on your behalf. The right person
can smoothly open up a rapore with their opposite number in HR or legal, and at
the same time press the right buttons for a better compromise agreement.
Often employer will pay an extra month or two s worth of
wages just because their legal rep advised them that because your brief has
started asking searching questions, it is worth nipping in the bud. You can
then pay your representative a commission based on the extra amount which they
secured for you. This arrangement works well because they will
only agree to this method of remuneration if they believe in the strength of
your case.
